Rain Rain Rain - brief interlude of sun

One wall was constructed this week, in between rain drops. It's exciting because it shows where the windows will be in the bedroom and living rooms. Hopefully next week will bring enough sun to get some other walls done!

Old House Parts in Kennebunk was a fun excursion. There were rooms of old doors, rooms of old windows, rooms of old shutters, rooms of doorknobs. Linda found a door complete with door jamb. She also found two much used, and I'm sure much slammed screen porch doors. The wood is old and the grain shows beautifully in them. Besides being cheaper than new stuff, I like reclaimed items. The character and spirit of the homes and cabins remain in the doors and windows that we bought for our house. It will be an endlessly fascinating rumination, to think about who previously gazed through the two cut glass windows and the arched window we chose. On cold days, when we are snug inside our cabin, I'll imagine a farmhouse in Maine and its inhabitants, where the large lead glass entry window was in its first incarnation.

When I called Adrien to tell him of our window purchase, he asked "Are they vinyl?", with a hopeful twinge in his voice. "Not exactly", I replied. "More like leaded glass." Not one to be flapped, Adrien did not miss a beat. "I'm sure we can make them work," he said with the confidence that got him hired for this job.

It rained and the sun shone together on Friday, enough to see a low rainbow over the pond. Saturday was a rain/sun mix that did not stop the Tanner pig roast from happening. It was a successful Fourth of July party, complete with plenty of beer, people from Billerica and fantastic thousand dollar fireworks display over the pond. Sunday, the most beautiful day of all, was one for swimming, fishing, paddling, rope swinging...
